Mersal & Associates are experienced Property lawyers.

Sometimes property disputes arise when one family member agrees with another to contribute to the acquisition (purchase), conservation (renovations) or maintenance (payment of loan) of a property. The contributing family member does not have his name on title. A falling out occurs between the parties and the legal owner of the property (whose name is on title) seeks to deny the contributing family member (equitable owner) any right to the property. Another example is when one family member builds on another's land. After a falling out the legal owner of the land seeks to deny the family member that has made the improvements to the land any legal right to the property. Property disputes, particularly ones arising between family members are emotional and are often complicated by virtue of long standing agreements which are almost always oral.
